Modelling

The modelling of analysis-oriented information systems covers many different aspects. An aspect concerns thereby the semantic or conceptual modelling level, to which here two topics are regarded in more detail.

Further Infomationen to this complex of topics is given in the sections Publications, Research and TDWI. The interested reader is also refered to www.t-adapt.com for detailed information about data modelling of BI systems.

Graphical Modelling for SAP Business Information Warehouse

On level of the logical data modelling for SAP Business information Warehouse (BW) so far no adequate graphical representation method is available which can support the data modeller. For the graphical representation of multidimensional logical data models of the BW I made a proposal that I presented on the Multikonferenz Wirtschaftsinformatik (MKWI) 2004 for the first time. Both conference paper and presentation slides are available for download. The corresponding Visio shapes for the method are available for download in version 6.0 for Visio 2002 and 2003.

T-ADAPT: Modelling of time aspects with an extension of ADAPT

One main focus in the development of Data Warehouse and OLAP systems is multidimensional modelling because capability and effective use depend on it. It is important to take reporting requirements in the phase of conceptual design into consideration. Structural changes in consolidation hierarchies are directly affecting the reporting possibilities and hence the treatment of these temporal aspects is an important facet. ADAPT (Application Design for Analytical Processing Technologies) is an accepted method for conceptual design which is supported by adequate tools. I developed an extension of ADAPT, which enables the modelling of temporal aspects. The corresponding Visio shapes for the method are available for download in version 6.0 for Visio 2002 and 2003.

More information is available on the T-ADAPT site.
